Investing 60 seconds in You

Working overtime… For you

In your early years your boss approached you and said I appreciate the hard work you put in. I have some after-hours projects if you want to earn more.

You likely jumped at the chance. Your boss likes you and you liked the paycheck.

Fast forward 10 to 20 years.

Though most jobs pay salary and not overtime anymore you still benefited from those experiences.

My question to you is…did you put that extra bonus money aside?
Did you see it as a gift which could build into something large?

Your money could have been working overtime all these years in the form of compound interest.

We investment professionals spend hours working overtime for your investment success.

Discipline yourself to set money aside for your future.
We are charged with going all out and working overtime for you.

Investing 60 seconds in You

When we were all young our parents took us to a buffet.

They handed us our plate stating be sure to bring back vegetables and meat, balance it out kids.

If you brought back a plate full of mac & cheese and fried chicken they would wag their finger, “Go back and fix it.

Though Mac-cheese was tasty there was no healthy variety on our plates.

As it relates to investing, when I see new people in my office their statements only reflect 1 or 2 funds in the portfolio.

It lets me know that no one is teaching about risk and diversification.

Without going into detail there are 11 sectors in the market and over 9,000 funds.

You do not need to them all.

Yet realize at different times some types of funds rise/flow with the business cycle and economic needs of the consumer.

Be open to understanding why.
It is in your best interest.

Investing 60 seconds in You

Weighing the pros and cons
Do you ever just do something on impulse?

You were all set to buy something at the store or online.

You searched it out, found it and pulled the trigger to buy it?

Once you have it in hand you begin to consider the value of the item, it’s merit– the pros and cons.

Some of you have had the same experience when it comes to investing or life insurance.

You know what had to be done.

You looked, Liked and pulled the trigger.

Looking back maybe he/she seemed to be the right fit.

But now as you weigh the pros and cons you are rethinking your decision. No phone calls or rarely in the last year or two.

No concrete advice or direction from them?

Poor fund performance?

No vision you both share for your retirement goals?

Now that you weighed the pros and cons, is it time to rethink your strategy?

Look for someone who puts you first and acts like it.

Just food for thought.

Own up to it
Some people I meet have the opinion that life is too easy.

Any subject you bring up, they have figured it out with all the answers.

While we want to celebrate their successes, no one has cornered the market as a know it all.

To state the obvious, plumbers, electricians, tax pros, attorneys, dentists, financial advisors all have careers because many of us cannot and have not figured it out.

It’s OK to admit where our experience and knowledge stops at a point.

If your investments and financial plans have hit the wall—you’ve done all you can.

Today’s Investing 60 seconds in You – Get your spouse involved!

Investing 60 seconds in You

Marriage is a team building sport.

You and your spouse each enter the relationship with strengths and weaknesses.

Hopefully your spouse‘s strength‘s cover your weaknesses and vice versa.

Key is to have open conversations each day on topics relating to marriage.

Look at marriage as a union between two business partners.

Each has roles to play, decisions to make, and vision for their joint future

Agreeing on Money, Budgets and retirement are a foundational corner stone of a strong marriage.

Sometimes 1 spouse pays the bills while the other does the shopping.

Do you both get together on your investments, retirement goals and progress on a consistent basis?

Of the married people I meet monthly, only one spouse comes in for the meeting 60% of the time.

I gently ask where their spouse is and hear a variety of reasons why they chose not to attend.

My encouragement is to emphasize how important making these decisions are to your spouse.

Some tell me they’re just not interested or don’t care.

My efforts are making clear to each couple where they stand financially when one spouse has passed away.

Please make sure you both are together on this so there are no surprises.

Get your spouse involved!

Oh how the decades fly by

From your Roaring 20s, to thriving 30s, to fantastic 40s, and fabulous 50s. Reflect back a few decades if you’re old enough too.

During your 20s you may have finished college, found your first career opportunity, met your spouse, had children and bought your first home.

During your 30s, you really began to know yourself, more children, advancing in your career, or upgraded to a new one, and traveled more.

During your 40s, you established who you are in your family, career, faith and with friends.

During your 50s, you may have experienced empty nesting, more traveling, appreciate life more and long to retire soon.

Wait, did we invest time & treasure back in our 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s?

What do you have to show for your efforts to-date?

Are you pleased with your progress?

So what is your next move?

Investing 60 seconds in You

When We Were Young

If something happened at school or in the playground we knew who to call: Mom. As teens if we made a big mistake we knew who to call: Dad.

As college students, figuring out life away from home, we knew who to call: Mom or Dad.

When we were hired for our first real job we knew who to call. When we met married and had our first child of course we knew who to call.

As your investments are experiencing the risks of the market do you know who to call? Do you know who will take your call? Do you want them to take your call? Do you want them to call you? How often?

As we have saved in our phones the number to our doctor, dentist, chiropractor, lawyer, tax person, who are we missing? Your investment professional. Yes, we are here to serve your needs.

I will take your call. I’m Robert Lee.
